On the 7 December 2019 at 2pm Maidstone Radio started broadcasting online to the people of Maidstone.
The station is made up of volunteers, some multi-award winning and with years of radio experience; others new to radio and learning new skills. In addition to running a radio station, Maidstone Radio provides a training programme that gives transferable skills in employability, digital media and functional skills to our volunteers.
Maidstone Radio is a community radio project with the sole purpose of serving the people, communities, charities, organisation & businesses in and around Maidstone.
“We want to say a massive “thank you” to all the volunteers who have contributed so much to the station – both on-air and behind the scenes. We wouldn’t be here without you!”
Stuart Baker, Kevin Field and Jason McCrossan: Directors of Maidstone Radio
The Directors also thanked all of the stations’ supporters and listeners for their “incredibly support” as well as the people, businesses, charities and non-profits who have spoken to the station and shared their stories about the great work they have been doing in the community during a very difficult time.
“2020 will be remembered, by most, for one thing….however, we will also remember it was the year of our first broadcast and how our volunteers pulled together to make sure we were able to stay on air – from our IT systems to our presenters broadcasting from their kitchens, lounges, bedrooms or sheds! – Thank you all.”
